Bangkok Wrap Up: Member Meeting #70 Advances Technical Development and Strategic Goals

Written by Dervla O'Reilly, MIPI Senior Event Manager | 8 December 2025

With a strong focus on advancing MIPI strategic priorities, 116 representatives from 45 Contributor- and Board-level member companies participated in MIPI Alliance Member Meeting #70, 10–14 November in Bangkok, Thailand, for the final in-person member meeting of the year.

The highly productive, weeklong collaboration among more than a dozen working groups and subgroups centered on driving specification and technical resource development, advancing MIPI strategic priorities and aligning on member-driven initiatives shaping the future of mobile and other connected ecosystems.

A post-meeting report that includes highlights of each group’s activities, updated development timelines and the latest MIPI Specification Roadmap will be distributed to all members later this month.

Strategic Progress & Working Group Milestones

The Technical Steering Group (TSG), composed of working group leaders and the board of directors, convened on Monday, 10 November, to set the stage for the upcoming week of working sessions. Discussions focused on the MIPI specification roadmap and progress on key strategic priority areas.

The official kick-off to the week, the Opening Plenary on 11 November, offered attendees comprehensive updates in several key areas: progress on the 2025-2026 strategic priorities, the release of a record-breaking number of new specifications in 2025, successful marketing and educational collaborations with working groups, the long-awaited release of the groundbreaking new MIPI SoundWire I3S (SWI3S™) v1.0 audio interface, and the latest developments in camera security.

After welcoming attendees to the meeting, Peter Lefkin, MIPI executive director, turned the mic over to MIPI Chair Hezi Saar (Synopsys, Inc.), who outlined the latest activities in the priority areas of strategic roadmap development, specification enablement and adoption, strategic direction, and membership growth and value.

Building on that theme, James Goel (Qualcomm Incorporated), chair of the Technical Steering Group, provided status updates on specification development and TSG-led initiatives such as system modeling; and Sharmion Kerley, MIPI director of marketing and membership, briefed attendees on recent education and outreach efforts, as well as upcoming enhancements to the structure and focus of the Marketing Steering Group (MSG).

Next up were Aruni Nelson (Intel Corporation), chair of the Audio Working Group, to highlight the recent release of MIPI SWI3S and share what's coming next in MIPI audio; followed by Rick Wietfeldt (Qualcomm), co-chair of the Security Working Group, who reported on the next wave of security specifications in development.

Congratulations to the Audio Working Group

The Opening Plenary closed with the recognition of Audio Working Group members who contributed to the development of MIPI SWI3S v1.0.

For their leadership and contributions to the development of the specification, the following working group leaders were presented specification award plaques by Peter Lefkin (left to right): Niel Warren (formerly with Google LLC), Rod Hogan (Apple Inc.), Eddie Ashfield (MIPI), Aruni Nelson (Intel) and Christian Jenkner (Infineon Technologies). In addition to those who received plaques at the Opening Plenary, all working group members who participated in the development of the specification will receive a certificate.

Connecting with Peers

Once working group sessions wrapped, attendees enjoyed a networking reception on Tuesday evening, as well as the traditional MIPI midweek social event on Wednesday. The social event began with a boat journey to the riverside Horsamut Restaurant, where members were treated to a brief welcome reception, dinner and live music.
