Automotive display requirements are evolving rapidly as industry trends drive automakers incorporate a growing number of high-performance displays in vehicles to support advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), digital cockpits, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and autonomous driving systems (ADS).
These advanced display systems must meet the stringent functional safety, reliability, power, weight and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements needed for in-vehicle systems. The MIPI Automotive SerDes Solutions (MASS) framework will help developers meet these requirements.
This webinar will focus on the display components of the MASS framework, providing an overview of each component and explaining how they combine to provide an end-to-end connectivity solution for the next generation of advanced, high-performance, automotive displays.
The specific components to be covered in the webinar are:
- MIPI Display Command Set (DCS) - an in-band command-and-control interface for displays
- MIPI Display Service Extensions (DSE) – a new MIPI specification that helps display solutions meet the functional safety requirements of ISO 26262 and provide high-definition digital content protection (HDCP)
- MIPI Display Serial Interface 2 (DSI-2) – a display protocol providing high-bandwidth physical link and data compression
- MIPI Protocol Adaptation Layers (PALs) – new MIPI specifications that provide a conduit between the MIPI A-PHY physical layer, and the MIPI DSI-2 and VESA Embedded DisplayPort/DisplayPort protocols
- MIPI A-PHY – the first industry-standard asymmetric SerDes interface providing long-reach connectivity between automotive image sensors and displays, and their associated electronic control units (ECUs).

James Goel has a bachelor’s of applied science (B.A.Sc) in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada and is a licensed professional engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario where he's practiced for the last 30 years. He's spent his career developing designs and technical standards for artificial intelligence/machine learning, video, audio and interface solutions in both engineering and management positions. He's been with Qualcomm for the last nine years after it acquired his previous company.
