Member collaboration, progress on strategic initiatives and a look ahead to emerging markets were all on the agenda last month as more than a hundred MIPI members gathered for MIPI Alliance Member Meeting #72.
Held 22-26 June in Berlin, the meeting brought together 16 MIPI groups for working sessions and special events, including the Opening Plenary and 13th Annual Awards Ceremony.
Read on for a recap of the week's major events, and we hope you'll be inspired to join us at our October member meeting and MIPI Demo Day in Taipei. A post-Berlin meeting report that includes highlights of each group’s discussions, updated development timelines and the latest MIPI Specification Roadmap will be distributed to all members later this month.
MIPI working group leaders and members of the board typically meet on Monday for a day dedicated to high-level technical and operational topics, as well as updates on working group activities and strategic initiatives.
The Technical Steering Group (TSG) session in Berlin focused on in-depth discussions of TSG and board priorities, AI policy and tools, a specification classification project and a report on the status of the Chip-to-Chip Birds of a Feather (BoF) group.

The 72nd meeting officially got underway on Tuesday morning at the Opening Plenary, which began with a welcome from Peter Lefkin, MIPI executive director. Peter recognized member companies in Germany, the latest Contributor to join the Alliance, and new Promoter member Sony Semiconductor Solutions, with Hiroo Takahashi joining the MIPI Board of Directors as Sony's representative. Peter also thanked Thomas Lindenkreuz of Robert Bosch GmbH for his service to the board.
Remarks from MIPI Chair Hezi Saar centered on progress toward MIPI's strategic priorities, with a detailed look at recent highlights in strategic roadmap development, enablement, adoption, strategic direction and membership. Hezi also offered a primer on chip-to-chip and die-to-die connectivity, encouraging members to get involved with these and other opportunities.
Following the chair's remarks, Peter returned to the stage to announce the approval of a new MIPI Kinematics Working Group and encouraged members to take advantage of MIPI education, including an A-PHY webinar, MIPI sessions at the September embedded world North America Conference, and MIPI Demo Day Taipei in October.
Working Group updates began with TSG Chair Ariel Lasry, who shared a look at the TSG roadmap, detailing key features in upcoming releases. He also outlined TSG strategic topics and called for participation and leadership for a medium-reach subgroup currently in development.
Next to the stage was Physical AI BoF Chair Edo Cohen, who continued the theme of new initiatives by providing an overview of the recently established Physical AI BoF, including the group's goals and scope, and the role of MIPI specifications in the emerging humanoid market. He concluded with the group's timeline and a call for BoF participants to help shape the future of MIPI specifications in humanoids.
The final presentation of the morning was delivered by Debug Working Group Chair Enrico Carrieri and focused on the group's recent and upcoming specification releases, as well as strategic initiatives related to ecosystem development and new opportunities in datacenter/AI debug use cases.
The Opening Plenary wrapped with recognition of members who contributed to the development of MIPI CCPAL/A™, adopted since the last member meeting in Montreal. Ariel Lasry accepted the specification plaque, and all working group members who contributed to the development of the specification will receive an award certificate.
Attendees gathered on Wednesday for a mid-week luncheon to celebrate their fellow members' achievements in specification development and working group leadership.
Four recipients in four categories were honored during the recent ceremony:
