In this presentation, Haran Thanigasalam provides an overview of the MIPI CSI-2 image sensor interface standard, covering its fundamental features and capabilities, including low-energy transport solutions, power spectral density reduction and latency reduction. Haran discusses the latest advances, such as always-on sentinel conduit, smart region of interest and multi-pixel compression. He also explores emerging features, including D-PHY embedded clock mode, and event sensing and processing. This presentation offers a comprehensive understanding of the MIPI CSI-2 standard and its applications in imaging systems.

In his role as camera and imaging consultant for MIPI, Haran Thanigasalam chairs the Camera Interest Group (CIG), driving the exploration and evolution of industry standards for emerging computer vision and other advanced imaging applications. Prior to joining MIPI, he served as a camera architecture engineering program manager at Apple and an imaging systems architect at Intel. During his time at Apple and Intel, he collaborated with exceptional domain experts to deliver bespoke imaging capabilities for iconic product platforms. With over 20 years of experience in imaging and optical systems development, Haran brings deep technical expertise to his work. He grew up in Alberta, Canada, and enjoys spending time in the Rocky Mountains.
