Call for Interest:
New Physical AI Group
MIPI members are encouraged to sign up to participate in a new MIPI Physical AI Birds of a Feather (BoF) group now being formed. The BoF offers the opportunity for engineers and implementers to explore upcoming technologies and trends in physical AI market segments, with an initial focus on humanoids. Once the group is established, interested non-member companies will be invited to participate as well.
About the BoF
While many current robotics systems are built on architectures from mobile, automotive and industrial systems, the industry is now migrating toward more efficient systems that can be commercialized, optimizing power, cost and size. This transition provides an opportunity for MIPI to address the lack of standardized PHY, protocol and application interfaces for physical AI markets, and present an architecture based on MIPI’s accumulated experience and proven technology.
The Physical AI BoF, chaired by Edo Cohen of Valens Semiconductor (vice chair of the MIPI Technical Steering Group), will analyze current hardware and software architectures currently used in the humanoid market, develop system diagrams for key application areas, and identify how MIPI specifications can be leveraged or enhanced to meet market needs. Ultimately, the group will provide a formal recommendation to the MIPI board regarding potential specification development opportunities.
Sign Up to Participate
If you’d like to get involved in shaping the future of physical AI within the MIPI ecosystem, we encourage you to complete the call for interest form.
Under a new Emerging Technologies Initiative, Adopter and non-member companies will have a pathway to continue their involvement in the effort should the BoF evolve into a working group or the activities are transferred to an existing MIPI working group. Details about the program will be announced later in Q2.
Once you’ve completed the form, we will follow up in the coming weeks with details about the BoF kick-off meeting (currently being planned for late April). If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Rob Anhofer, MIPI director of operations.
